Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how RoadHistorical LLC (“RoadHistorical,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the RoadHistorical mobile application (the “App”) and the roadhistorical.app website.

Information We Collect

Location Data

The App collects your precise GPS location while in use to identify nearby historical points of interest and provide contextual information. We do not collect location data in the background when the App is closed.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and any profile information you provide. Authentication is handled through Firebase Authentication (Google LLC).

Usage Data

We collect information about how you interact with the App, such as places you've visited, content you've saved, and features you use. This data is stored in Google Firestore.

Visitor Check-In with Google

When you check in at a site that uses RoadHistorical visitor check-in, you may choose to continue with Google instead of typing your email address. If you do, Google shares your verified email address and your name with the check-in; we never see your Google password. Your email address and the first name on the form are then stored with your check-in, where the organization that runs the site can see them, just as a typed address would be. Whether that organization or RoadHistorical may email you is up to the consent boxes you choose on the form. No account is kept for you: the temporary sign-in record created for the check-in is normally deleted right away, once the check-in has your details, and a sign-in record that already existed for your Google account (for example, if you work at a partner site) is left as it was. On phones, when a check-in page offers Continue with Google, your browser loads Google's sign-in script in advance so the button responds right away; this contacts Google even if you then type your email instead. Typing your email address instead is always available.

Email Newsletter

If you subscribe to the RoadHistorical newsletter on our website, we collect your email address and a record of your consent: when you signed up, when you confirmed, and the wording you agreed to. You are not subscribed until you click the link in our confirmation email. The newsletter covers Texas history stories, nearby stops and new RoadHistorical features, about every other week. If you signed up for RoadHistorical Android updates, we added that address to the newsletter, and each email says why you are receiving it.

Every email has an unsubscribe link, and your email app's unsubscribe button works too; unsubscribing takes effect right away. We send the newsletter through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon Web Services), which tells us whether each email was delivered, bounced or reported as spam, so we can stop sending to addresses that cannot receive mail or that complained. We do not track whether you open our emails or click their links.

If you do not confirm within 7 days, we delete the address from the sign-up request. We keep your consent record as proof of your choice; the record of each newsletter we sent you keeps your address for 90 days and is deleted after 13 months. When you unsubscribe, we remove your address from the mailing list and keep only a coded record of your choice, so we never email you again by mistake. If an email to you bounces, we keep that address on a do-not-send list (Amazon SES keeps one too) until you sign up again. You can ask us to delete your address from our email records entirely by writing to support@roadhistorical.app.
